Vintage copper Palmer thermometer. I was told it was used for maple syrup but it could have been used for any type of high temperature cooking such as candy, etc. The thermometer has a clip on the back to affix it to a pot and the thermometer goes up to 440 degrees. It shows some wear and marks throughout. The thermometer is marked "Palmer, Cin. O. U.S.A." It measures 15" long including the handle. Please pm me for additional pictures.
